Valpo Velvet Ice Cream Company

I was on business today in Valparaiso, IN and after lunch I stopped by the famous Valpo Velvet Ice Cream Company, owned by Spoonpluggers Mark and Mike Brown. I had the pleasure of visiting in the middle of some serious ice cream being made and it is Old School Cool. These guys know how to do it right on the water and in their shop. What a great place and the ice cream is fantastic. I recommend the Pistachio, which I witnessed being made with real pistachio nuts. You don't see that too often anymore.

One photo is of the ice cream storage unit. What you see in the photo only a small portion of the ice cream in there and will all be shipped out tomorrow.

The other photo is of our Brown brothers, hard at work getting the pistachio ice cream straight from the string of machines that churn and cool their handmade mixes into tasty treats. They can't stop to talk when the machines are on, so we chatted while they worked away. And yes, they wear hair nets when they're not fishing.
