Re: Where is Fran???

Fran, I had a feeling that this was what you were doing. I must praise you for your courage. It takes courage and a stick-to-it mind set, and great mental attitude to do what you are doing. I applaud your efforts, and I encourage you to not get discouraged again. You will reach some plateaus, and wil...

Re: What type of reservoir am I?

It could be a Highland, with Lowland features.
Or it could be a Lowland, with some Highland features.
Either way, i would go to the Headwaters no matter what!

Re: New Flasher Depthfinder

Doug You can't go wrong with the Vexilar units. They are the best on the market right now, IMHO. Lots of different models to choose from. It you go on ebay, you can pick then up at reasonable prices. I , at the urging of Bill Beck, got a dash mount Vexilar 8, and it has been working great. I also ha...

Re: Lead core line not going deep

The problem with leadcore, is its large diameter. You have to let out several hundred feet to reach your depths. Monel, steel wire will cut right through the water like a knife. You also must "sink" the wire . This involves letting the line out slowly, and the cutting the speed of the moto...

Re: Don Dickson Interview

Part 3 was just as good!
Thanks Jim for the info.
What struck me in the interview, was the fact that he was excited as if he was telling it all for the first time.
And, as you say, he was certainly in his teaching mode!

Don Dickson Interview

Jim, What a great interview so far! I personally want to thank you for doing it! I fished with Don for several years in a row each winter taking personal on the water instruction, and all those stories he tells in the interview, brought back incredible memories of him and I either sitting in the boa...

Re: Indiana Law

LOL! So Denny was still under that 5 mph when the C.O. stopped him? He said he was running 4- 4 1/2 mph. Out here this time of year, 6-7 mph is the norm and many times faster. Ive seen it in Florida to make the fish take the lure that 10 mph was needed. Ive had to run 6-8 mph in Indiana many many ti...

Re: Indiana Law

Thanks for the post Brian! Well that sucks! Never ever heard of it in all these years. Guess I have broken that law a time or two over these many years! The problem, as i see it, is what is idle speed? For a big boat, it might idle at 4-5 mph. While my 16 ft. Lund with a 40hp motor will idle at 2-3 ...

Indiana Law

I just saw on the Indiana Spoonpluggers News Letter that in Indiana you cant make a "wake" within 200 feet of any shoreline. I guess that rules out trolling at a pace to make the fish take? I have never heard of this law? Anyone else? When did this come into effect? Many structure situatio...

Re: trolling reel

James, I must respectfully disagree with you on the line counters. That may have been true when they first came out, or with certain brands, but the Okumas with a full spool will lay out 10 feet of line when the counter says 10 feet. With Nobo, when it says 30 feet, the colored area is right there a...

Re: trolling reel

Joe, Reel speed ratio is really not that important in a trolling reel. That said, years ago we all used to use the old Penn 109's, and the handle would not disengage. This was more for being able to "thumb" the reel when letting out line, or fighting a fish, without getting a backlash. I k...

Re: Prior to becoming a Reservoir

Nice video Joe!

And for what its worth, there is a way you can troll those tree tops and not get hung up all the time.

But better to spend your time on good structure, right where that 10 Mile road ends down by the dam. No trees, good clean bottom, and road that leads all the way.
