schooling fish ?

at what size do bass start schooling?
do large and smallmouth school together?
i ask these questions because when i start picking up small fish are they telling me a movement is happening or do i ignore them? also in the waters i fish both type bass are present and i catch equal amounts on the same structure. are they just using the same areas but not schooling together?
