Bucks Baits SpoonPlugger 101 reel for sale

Post by RickP1 »

I have a very nice Bucks Baits Spoonplugger 101 reel for sale. These are not a common find at all from what I understand. Appears to be 100% complete and original, action is nice and smooth, drag works, reel looks lightly used IMO. It is filled partially with some sort of color marked trolling line. $90 OBO + shipping from 45068. USPS Money Order only. This reel would make a nice addition to any Buck Perry fishing equipment collection!

Oh, Thanks John,

Op, I may have to retract my offer, I need to research if I can find that missing part.

These cool direct-drive collector reels were re-stickered True Temper 940f. I have a couple of those TT’s purchased on eBay and an owners manual. Those funny holes are for a special wrench, I believe, so looks good. Its the reel Terry O’Malley was using in the Florida Lake Apopka video. The old Fishing News ran ads in the 1960’s of these Buck’s Baits reels packaged as affordable trolling rod/reel combos and sold by Montgomery Ward’s.

Used to use these a lot for trolling and casting. These are direct drive reels. When you turned the handle, the line comes in. When fighting a fish, instead of having a star drag, the round part controlled the amount of tension when still engaged. You still had the push button to push when making a cast or letting out line when trolling. They were a tough reel that stood up well. The best thing was when fighting a fish and they made a run, just take your hand off the handle and thumb it. Hardly ever lost a fish. John

Dave, They are 5000 D. I think they are worth a bit of money. The one in the box has never had line on it. John

Found at a garage sale. Looks like mine is missing 'tension knob' unfortunately.
