Re: Rods?????
Kevin and Jim, check out the Twili for wire. Many Spoonpluggers use 'em and like 'em a lot. I bought one but haven't used it yet. http://www.fishusa.com/Twili-Tip-Wire-Line-Guide_p.html

Re: Fish move then momentarily pause or stop at breaks...
Koz you made the right move! Don't neglect the DVDs that John Bales and Stephen Gillian produced, http://spoonpluggerfilms.com/ . They are a goldmine of information. You will feel like you are right in the boat with John; e.g. he speaks into the camera in first person as though he is talking to you....

Koz,
I know it's not real close to you, but a Spoonplugger named Barry Johnson lives over in Brenham; (409)834-2527. You might give him a call. Looks like Conroe is about half way between you two. Maybe you can hook up with him(no pun intended).

Re: Highland Reservoirs
My curiosity got the best of me, so I pulled up DVL on Navionics. First impression: "That is one big, deep pond!" But...there are feeder creeks and submerged road beds all over the place. The arm that Bryan-AZ shows in his posting has a creek bed and a road bed running from the sou...

Navionics Lake-of-the-week 4/13/13
Here's a stab at a lake-of-the-week. I'm going to this lake the last week in May. It's a "Class A" muskie lake in N WI, ergo no motor trolling. The lake is reputed to have a good bass and a good muskie population, but it's tea stained. The weedy areas are indicated in green. Using Spoonplu...

Re: Lake of the week
First thing I did was look for an up-to-date map. That DNR map is from June 1965 and hydrographic mapping has made a few improvements in the past 48 years. The Navionics map looks like a better representation. Given: "Class A" musky lake, ergo motor trolling is prohibited. Bill said it's f...

Re: Navionics lake of the week 3-24-13
Prespawn. Because the depth of the weedline isn't given, I'm going to make an assumption that it is about 10' and work from there. From ice-out I would fancast the deep hole until the water temperature approached 50 deg. At that time I would start watching to see if they were moving up on the inside...

First thing that jumps out is that 34' hole in the NE corner; looks mighty inviting at ice-out! Followed by the 22' and the 26' holes.

Billy Boy,
The seminar is just one day, but you'll have plenty of time to meet a lot of Spoonpluggers. See the announcement I posted, 11th Annual Winter Seminar, under the National Spoonpluggers of America Outings forum.

Welcome aboard Billy Boy. If you are looking to come to the midwest to work with a CSI, John Bales is the best of 'em. You might want to give some thought to the Illinois Spoonplugger Club winter seminar in March. It is a gathering of about 50 to 60 Spoonpluggers from all over the country.

I can still hear Buck saying, "They're called 'CRAPPIE', not 'CROPPIE' as some people think it's more sophisticated to call 'em"
