Re: rod questions

Hi Woody; If you are a little bit handy you can make a good spoonplugging rod for about $50. A few years back I needed another rod but was kinda tight on money. Being that I always wanted to build a rod I figured this would be the time to try. I found that Jann's Netcraft had solid fiberglass blanks...

Re: Side scan depth finders

As tempting as the new technology is, be careful because when a person starts spending a thousand dollars or more for an aid, we start to expect big answers from our investment and may sway from the sound basics. You could get alot on the water training from one of the top notch intructers for the a...

Re: lake okeechobee spoonplugging

This has been some great stuff to read and ponder. Having read all the posts on this topic and taken it all in, there are three things that stand out. 1. Mr Perry gave us sound guidelines to follow. 2. On any body of water fish will be where things are most stable. 3. There are times when weather an...

Re: Powerpro line

Boy, I really opened a can of worms on this one. I think I will just go back to the basics and use the nobo and the wire like I have for years. John great points, With nobo and wire I can cover everything I need. Plus I don't really need any more rods in the boat than I already have. Bill Beck.

Re: Powerpro line

Thanks, everyone for your replies. The one thing that still has me a bit puzzled is that the powerpro line tends to break from the rigors of tipping and bouncing off hard bottoms, rocks ect. Wouldn't a length of the 80lb. no-bo leader offset this?, or do you mean that it will snap farther up the lin...

Powerpro line

While on the water the other day I had one of my trolling reels breakdown and realized that the only spare reel I had with me had 30lb. power pro line and being I always use no-bo I was unsure how it would work. After figuring out how many layers it was for 10 yds. I was able to determine line lengt...

Ranger 680T Fisherman

Today I saw this boat on Craigslist. It is located in Wisc. Dells. It has a 50hp. yamaha. They are asking $6500. Their is a nice picture of it, and it looks to be in great shape. Just thought I would pass it on in case someone is still looking for one of these Ranger's. Bill Beck.

Re: "Trolling the Spoonplug".

What ever happened to Carl Malz after Fishing Facts? I always enjoyed his articles. I remember that picture. That was the time frame that I started spoonplugging. Bill Beck.

Re: Penn Peerless

I just found out the reel is an original 109, not the newer 9m sold at Bucks Baits. I've tried to use the 9m, but the aluminum spool can't hold up to the larger size spoonplugs because of the torque. Bill Beck.

Penn Peerless

Does anyone know if the Penn Peerless 9 is the same reel as the 109? I have the offer to buy one from a guy at work for 25$ that he says is in near mint shape with the manual. Thanks, Bill Beck.

Fall Movements

When the lakes turn over and become clearer, it is my understanding that the fish will have just one movement a day. So if the is the case and there was a movement at say 9am would that probably be the only activity to expect for that day? Also is the water more stable when the lake turns over? Than...

Spoonplug hooks

A question to you guys that fish for large Muskies. Have any of you guys ever experimented with putting larger, stronger hooks on the back of the 7&800's or do you feel that would change the way the lure performs. I have personally caught several Muskies the way they are, but have also had some ...

Penn 9M Reel

I was wondering if anyone has used this reel. I bought one last year and it didn`t seem to hold up well. I have some of the Penn 109`s that I have had redone, and I know they don`t make them anymore. I like the large handle on the 9m but it just doesn`t seem to be made strong enough to handle the ri...
