Re: Side scan depth finders
I have a 45 pound 3 fluted river anchor from Cabelas. I figure if you don't pee when you pick it up, the anchor is too light.

Re: Side scan depth finders
Fran, Nope, cant do that!!!!!!!!! The rice would swell and crush our units. John I said that because when I was repairing computers this past week, I found someone who thought they were drying there wet cell phone in a dish of rice. I don't have any idea if it works. Other than that rice does absor...

Re: Side scan depth finders
Just dam off Lake St. Clair cause that's where most of the weeds that get in our way come from.

Re: Side scan depth finders
I think the issue was the big multi colored characters.
Heck maybe we should just mount our units in big buckets of rice.

Re: Side scan depth finders
You know Spnplgr, I was wondering what I could do to protect my water resistance units. I never thought about that. What an awesome idea!

Re: Side scan depth finders
This time of year they pump the heck out of Ice fishing kits. I bought mine at Fleet Farm, but it was an Ice fishing kit that I had to get the boat kit from Vexilar. Just buy the Floating model and you have all you need, once you pick the transducer. Go to www.vexilar.com buy direct from them. They ...

Re: Side scan depth finders
Absolutely correct Kenny. The thing about the Vexilar is that it does have gain control as every other sounder. But what it does do that most other sounders don't is something called low power. When you're shallow with soft bottom, weeds, or other difficult bottom conditions - the Vexilar has a feat...

Re: Side scan depth finders
Hi Nick, I have heard the Hummingbird Side Scan's are very good. Also I should say the Lowrance HDS's are having a lot of problems. I think if you buy the Hummingbird you would be happy. I am sure the salesman read and demonstrated all the features accurately using the enhanced simulator. You can eas...

Re: Fishing Deep
Steve, You may have the warm water but you still have to think of the seasonal movements. At this time of year the migrating fish are on their way toward the headwaters in the main channel or way up in the bigger feeder creeks. Something else that I remembered from the videos was that everything was...

Re: lake okeechobee spoonplugging
I just finished reading this thread from the beginning. It is awesome and one of the best since the site was started. I am learning a lot. While reading I found a couple of open questions and I thought I would mention them. First was when was the "OFFICIAL" change which showed us that Cypr...

Re: lake okeechobee spoonplugging
I can answer that. Yes! The bowl shaped, seemingly flat lake with soft muck over the entire bottom is somewhat common in Minnesota. Now the smaller lakes may not be 50+ feet apart, but the bigger deeper lakes yes. And I admit that until recently I never recognized these situations as structure. Howe...

Re: Reel Service
Kenny, even with the primo ceramic bearings the cost wasn't that out of hand I spent about $40 bucks each for the 965's. The 109's were about $25 (no ceramic bearings) and they are smooth as a babies bottom. I know that a lot of peoples reels sound like coffee grinders so a few bucks a year or coupl...

Re: Lake Okeechobee Spoonplugging
David, I would also like to point out that in spending considerable amount of time thinking about this thread is that these subtle breaklines aren't exclusive to Florida. Many lakes where I live even the ones that have GREAT water color (less than 5") and depths greater than 50', sometimes the ...

Reel Service
Hey Guys, Just before Christmas I sent all the reels I use for trolling to Kevin Rush's Professional Reel Service. Not only does Kevin do the normal clean, lube, and repair of reel, he also will upgrade parts to make the reels better than new (if you want). I sent 5 Penn 965's, 4 Penn 109's, and a b...
