The good old days

All of my conversations with Terry are about the good old days. Its been a long time since he has been on the water anywhere but longer since he has fished any of the lakes here in the Midwest. I try and tell him that things have changed. He never saw the effects the zebra muscles had in clearing a ...

Re: Migration route

I am in the same frame of mind. The ice cannot go away fast enough. We all go through a stage of learning. New or long time at this, we continue to learn and think on how we can learn more and get better. Lakes change, fish populations change for different reasons. My time in doing this, one thing I...

Re: Migration route

Talk about over looked. As spoonpluggers, we fish for the larger fish of any species. We spend a lot of time on the natural lakes at the base of the weedline waiting for the fish to get active. Like Walk stated, we spend less time in the shallows. Many times the inside edge is shaped just like the o...

Re: First Post

Dave, Something we all share in spoonplugging is the want to have Mr. Perry's knowledge. It is obvious that most of our minds are not that of a genius so learning what is in the study material is all we can do. First of all, if you have a boat without tiller steering, this will take away what CAN be...

Re: Bottom Bumping

When the three of us were reading the green book, the internet did not exist. We never even saw another spoonplugger for quite a few years. We had one place to go when we came to a stand still and that was to write a letter to Buck. Like others from my era, anyone who wrote Buck got a letter back, e...

Re: Jerry Borst goes to the Dark Side

A good example of self motivation. I would guess he stayed because of the lack of movements during daylight hours to see if they were moving at night. Answer gotten and more knowledge learned. Expected from Jerry. John

Re: Snow

Thats my buggy. What are you talking about. Getting some help from my amish brothers. I'd say we are looking at ten inches right now and its still snowing. Expecting 4 more on top of whatever we get tonight with pretty stiff winds to 30. That will be interesting. Oh well. John

Re: Snow

Jim, The first 5 inches of snow and cold has already moved me indoors after finishing the pour and painting of the first batch. Those are finished. More hooks are coming in the next few days which will put me back into the cold garage if I am able to snow blow me a path. It sounds like we are going ...

Re: Jim Shell talks to Don Dickson

Dont care how old this video is, its always good to re-listen, re-study material and evaluate your catches and try and get better. No matter what you are doing to catch the fish, always keep depth and speed in your mind. That's all it is. Years of trolling and casting will show you where to spend yo...

Re: Bottom Bumping

A spoonplug kept in position will show the fisherman every good structure in the lake, teaches how fish use structure, how fish move according to weather and water conditions, teaches you the soft and hard bottoms of the lake, learn the importance of depth and speed control, shows you where to cast ...

Re: Jerry Borst

Fishermen for the most part are a selfish group. They don't realize that there are no secrets to success. I will tell you this...... As your success grows and grows, some of your friends will start to not like you any more. Be ready to get pounded from all sides because of your success. This will gi...

Re: The mental part of fishing

Bill, Debs uncle left the hat after a family gathering. I put it on and told Deb to take a pic and gave one of my attitude looks. It was all in fun.I was very determined today from the start but 7 baby smallmouth on one lake and a fat zero on my own lake in the other 3 hours tells me it might have b...

Re: The mental part of fishing

Hats off to Jim and Bill for their efforts. Looks like pretty good rewards in both cases. I believe Mr. Duplex always says you can't catch em if your not out there. A few of us are either more self motivated than the others or some say just a little more crazy. Good job guys. Would you consider this...
