Re: Depth Sounders, Graphs, and Flashers

No musky today. A half a dozen hits. One three pound white bass and a 6lb channel catfish. All on the JB2 and most hits came from 40 to 50 feet. Mostly at 50. Thermocline is completely gone. Now all we need is some stable weather and the fish will go good. Debs birthday is tomorrow and I wasnt going...

Re: Depth Sounders, Graphs, and Flashers

Morning Josh, Knowing how to set up your unit so you get what you want is a lot like everything else is in life. Some things you figure out for yourself and that may take a life time and some things you are shown by someone else. In my case, I was lucky to be able to have smart friends who showed me...

Re: Fish CROSSING what SEEMS to be a flat!!!!

Yes I have pretty much replaced my flasher with a graph. The old graphs presented information too slowly for countour trolling. Not instant like a flasher. By accident, I found a way to speed up the scroll speed and eventually understood what I did and why it sped up the scroll speed. Most all of my...

Re: Fish CROSSING what SEEMS to be a flat!!!!

Josh, I grew up using nothing but flashers. Hummingbirds up the gazoo. Wore out plenty of them. Then the zercom flasher came along and we thought we had the cat by the you know what. Best flasher ever built and I thought there was nothing better. Then Kenny Hyde and Frank Hamill introduced me to a c...

Re: Flatland Resivor Structure Interpritaions, SEASONAL/Wea

Sorry to dissagree with you Sir Douglas on fishing past 30 feet. " You may have to go to the fish because they may not come to you". Wire line and going to the fish will open up a new world not known by many. I say not known by many because not many have went there. It is more difficult an...

Re: FLATLAND RES.#1

Where you have the red dots, there are no breaklines. The total area where you have the dots will be void of fish. The channel runs straight in all of these areas. The breaks and breaklines plus the deepest water in the area wil all be in the area where the channel makes a bend. The best spots will ...

Re: a question

Great stuff guys. All fishing successes and failures must be answered in terms of depth and speed control. When you make a great catch it is because you did a good job of controling your depth and speed.......... period! When you do not make a catch, you would have to say that either our depth contr...

Re: a question

You got it Bill, on the money. Lots have been learned about the short and long lines by sharing knowledge with other sponpluggers. Makes a person do some thinking though. Most of my spoonplugging life, when a lure was chosen to run a particular depth, the line was let out till the lure touched the b...

Re: a question

Boy Steve, you sure made that a short one!!!!!!! Your thinking was right on the money. Your first thoughts were of depth and speed and it should be. If you cannot get the answer from those two controls, which in most cases you can, then you must bring in the other three. Size, color and then action....

a question

A fisherman went fishing last week and in two days caught 52 northern pike. He was trolling a spoonplug at the outside of a 14 foot weedline. He was also using a three way rig with a 4 3/4 inch lightweight flutter spoon. Of the 52 fish caught, 47 of them took the flutter spoon instead of the spoonpl...

Re: lake okeechobee spoonplugging

There is a time and place for all of our tools. A good spoonplugger will know when, where, what, why and how to react in each situation and make his catch. And do so without hesitation. Every day is different. Our guidelines tell us what to do to become a good fisherman. If we follow these guideline...

Re: Replacing Double Hooks with Trebles

When I lose a belly hook, most of the time I just go without one. Those lures go in a pile eventually to get a replacement belly hook. Years ago, I bought 20 or so of every size belly hook and that purchase has came in handy over the years. As far as losing a lure because the hooks wont bend, I havn...
