Re: New/old spoonplugger
I agree with Dave, I doubt you are going 6 mph at 1000rpm. A trolling motor should never be looked at as a trolling tool. It is only used for the slower speeds and boat positioning. Most new spoonpluggers worry about not going slow enough. 2 1/2 mph is dead slow. Bring a friend with a gps or ask som...

Re: well, looks like we win!
I have always hated politics. Matter of fact, I have always hated insurance companies. I once went into an insurance company that lied to me about my coverage with a baseball bat wanting to see the agent that sold me my policy. I was a young man then and they had already fired the guy. Didn't get mu...

Re: well, looks like we win!
Interesting............ I work for a small company with 11 employees, including the two owners. They have been in business for 27 years and run a steel fabricating company. We make all kinds of things so it is difficult to try and say what we make. I figured that I would hear some of what you are sa...

Re: PAST seminar questions
I did say 1/4 mile and he said 3/4 of a mile. My mistake. This is what happens after a hard days work and a large glass of whiskey on ice. I wonder if the guy has even fished this place. Well.......... Have you? Have you given it an effort. What have you done so far as to ask these questions? Can yo...

Re: PAST seminar questions
Joe, How far does the road go from the drop off before reaching a depth of 10-12 feet? The fish will not go 1/4 mile on their movements. Need to know more. John

Re: past seminar ( winter) questions
That's easy............ Go fishing often......... Fish all seasons........... Learn how to troll and cast both......... Fish all types of waters and fish for all species but learn to catch the bass and the others will just get in the way. The tough weather conditions will come and you will learn to ...

Re: John Bales Spoonplugging DVD's
Well of course they are very good. Good for the beginner or advanced if there is such a thing. Of all who have purchased the video's, only had a couple of complaints. Of those that complained, they are the same who complain about other things. I really don't think their is a place to go to get a pre...

Re: Repost from general thread - 14' semi-v for spoonpluggin
Just my opinion but this rig doesnt sound like it would be quite big enough for the river system you will be fishing. That can be a rough place and safety has to be considered . It sounds like the perfect boat for smaller waters though. I would keep looking for something a bit larger for those water...

Re: Line Selection
Yes, I have several comments on this. Like all of our fishing tools, everything has it's place. No bo has just about the same stretch as florocarbon. It was designed many moons ago and it too, has it's place. If you were fishing a lake with a dark yellow green water color and your breaklines were at...

Re: Lake of the week Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence
Bill, We just tell the truth! In our natural lakes when the thermocline exists, we do not make our catches deep during that time of year. However, when it is completely gone, this is when you can really find out a lot about controlling lures and finding the fish out into the lake basin. When there i...

Re: Lake of the week Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence
By sections I am talking about separate holes, each one will have its own group of fish. If a hole is 1/4 mile long , my lure will eventually be on the bottom in the deepest part of the hole. That's why it is important to pick the holes you can reach. If the deepest water cannot be bumped with the l...

Re: Lake of the week Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence
This place is mind boggling. Years ago I purchased a map of the St. Lawrence and studied it to pieces. Ended up going to the eastern basin of Lake Erie instead. I heard reports of cabbage weeds that grow out to 30 feet. If that is the case, your larger fish (outside of the spawn) will rarely make it...

Re: Greetings
Jason, Spoonpluggers have been taught to fish the lakes with water color. Yes it makes catching fish much easier but like you, living on a lake, you have to fish it . I personally love the deep clear lakes. Your interpretation of the deep features will be the key and lots of time presenting lures in...

Re: Greetings
Jason, My best advise to you if you havnt already done it is to study either the green book or the 9 volume home study series. It will help you understand the whole ball of wax. You will be more comfortable knowing what makes a fish tick and exactly what you must do to catch him. Good luck. John Bales
