Re: Study

Hal, Yep........... fished them all. Got some big bass out of Pleasant one fall, a big school. Corey and Harwood are known for small fish but there are a few big ones too. Fisher had tons of small pike, and a few bass but never did get any big ones. Don't remember Clear but know its in that area. I ...

Re: Study

I could spend a lot of time talking about thermoclines but Buck summed it up really good so we don't have to think about it too much. A thermocline is nothing but another breakline that fish can relate to. If your depth meter will show it, then it will also show any fish that are relating to it, abo...

Re: Study

Hal, Do you realize how close we live to one another? I have fished nearly all of the lakes in your area at one time or another. I can drive to three rivers in about 40 minutes from where I live. I was bored a lot this winter and drove up to D&R sports center twice and drove right through three ...

Another phone conversation

Mr. O'Malley called again last night and our discussion was his next article. Somewhere in the middle, Terry said its amazing how many people just don't get it and that success is not that difficult to have. I could write a whole article on our conversation on just this one subject. His article will...

Study

Last night I was bored so I picked up one of several green books laying around the house and started turning pages. I looked at all the pics in the back pages first because I just got done talking with Terry O'Malley for about two hours. My thoughts as I was going through the material was that of re...

Re: new technology

Some more, I have never used my electronics for mapping or to make a map. It only takes a few minutes to map out a bar, throw your markers and start fishing to find the rest of the answers. The time that it takes to drive over a fishing area for mapping purposes I consider wasted time (for me). It i...

Re: new technology

Dennis, I agree with a lot of what you say. The new guys that don't learn by the book and those who may skip over that first part(by the book) will not have that basic knowledge needed to really put the new tools to good use. As far as spoonplugging staying alive, there will always be a few doing it...

Re: Lets try another

Steve, Making an attempt to share knowledge is never a waste of time. Mr. Perry spent a lifetime trying to get the mass of fishermen to listen and their response was always less than sub par. It is the few like us that listened and believed that kept him going. Let me make a point about side scannin...

Re: Lets try another

From your depths and contours, its got to be on the right hand side of the cut. Nice finger, sharpest drop to the deepest water. The center of the cut is too flat, you show a nice little finger at 40 but too far from the deepest water and appears flat. I am sure you can visually see this thing by lo...

Re: Intrepretation

I was afraid to guess. Both drawings didn't come in real clear so I didn't guess at all. After looking at Brian's guesses, I would have been with him on both drawings. Good stuff. Last chat we had about your reservoirs, I spent a few hours looking at maps of them all. If you weren't so far away, I t...

Re: Question

Steve, This is the kind of answer I was looking for. Smaller lakes, and especially smaller holes. If the deeper holes are too big, it takes much more time and effort to locate them. That would be a good time to fire up the new depth finders and take a look at different depths and what you see at a c...

Question

January is almost over and its very possible that there will be open water in 60 days. I am surrounded by small natural lakes. I want to be out there the day after the ice comes off. What do you suggest I do? The water temps will be around 40. Do I troll, cast? Do I check deep and if so , where at d...

Best color.............. Green pumpkin............ I didn't get my tackle pack. They must have forgotten me. Color.............. I know of no color that will keep you from catching a fish if you first consider depth and speed. I do like green pumpkin. If you and I are fishing and you are killing me ...

I was watching the Next Bite tv show this morning and they were fishing wing dams on the Mississippi in the summer casting crankbaits. They ran the new Humminbird side scan to find the wing dam which also showed where the wing dam was on the map of the GPS. They did the side scan thing, found the wi...
