Re: Daily movements

Perfect answer Jim. First five days on the water, every day the best has been early afternoon and for 20 to 40 minutes. And then it is over. Have around 60 fish so far and only two were over 4lbs. Cold nights don't allow for the water to warm very fast. A couple of 60 degree days and some wind will ...

Re: St. Clair get together

There are days you will be fine but then again, a NE wind can make it bad for everyone. We are protected pretty good from the west or NW. You can fish the river sometimes when the lake is rough but you never know what you are going to get. The good thing about this place is that it is the best small...

Re: St. Clair get together

Keitech swimbaits are salty but worth having enough just in case. There are others that work but its a good tool at times. If we start getting a bunch of fish on a hair jig, I can throw what you need in your boat. Janns Netcraft sells a really good swimbait and they are cheaper than the high dollar ...

St. Clair get together

Here is a short list of some of the lures you want to get if you don't have if you plan to join our group of guys at Lake St. Clair. #9 shad rap or deep diving suspending husky jerk. A couple each of the KVD suspending jerk bait the 300 series and the shallower running one. Jigs 1/2 and 3/4 ounce wi...

Re: Keeping records

Last season when I started keeping some records, there were no goals. Just to keep track of the more important things so I could look back and see when a catch was made, how many , how big and what it took to catch them. Of course, weather and water. Numbers of fish caught and size also. I have alre...

Re: Keeping records

Brett, For me, getting on the water a lot allowed me to stay in tune with basic fish movements and how that is effected by weather and water conditions. The ultimate for me is to be observant , watch what is happening around you and sometimes be able to see what changed in the weather that made the ...

Re: Keeping records

The last 30 minutes, I was reading through the green book which is always within reach of my chair. It just so happens that what I was looking at has some answers to your thoughts. If you pay attention to his findings, you will understand that in order to come up with a conclusion, he did a lot of t...

Re: Keeping records

Steve, I don't think water color matters one bit. It's a pre spawn movement where they feed heavily before the spawn. When it happens, you can see the tails of the bluegill or shad in their throats. A good strong wind blowing where the shoreline is riled up is one of the things to look for. To me it...

Re: Keeping records

For years, the best pre spawn movements shallower than ten feet(only if weather is stable), always occur in water temps of 48 to 50 degrees. It just so happened to be 53 when it really happened for me this year. Yes it was a shad lake and the A rig was the deal. I hope to bring Duplex around to get ...

Keeping records

Last year was the first time I was able to keep a log of my activity and the important things to remember. Dates, water temps, fish caught , size and numbers, Lake name, and any thought that was important for that day on the water. I have already been asked to look up the dates of some of our good c...

Re: Off season chores

I can handle a snag now and then. Kentucky Lake was a nightmare with snags and trout lines. I was just thinking how many plug knockers to bring. :) John PS. And that is interesting that all the stripers came on the trailer.

Re: Off season chores

I love that rod. I am sure Casey does too. Got some questions for you Jim about Old Hickory and if you answer them on the forum, some of the guys going there can benefit from your experiences. When you were on Old Hickory, when you trolled the delta's , how bad were the hangs, trout lines ect? I am ...

Off season chores

Every winter when we can't fish, I bring in all my rods and clean up the reels and oil them in the right places so they work well and last longer. As I was finishing up with the baitcasters, I put the reel back on the rod and realized this was my favorite baitcasting rod. I really like Dobyns rods a...
