Re: Old Hickory

Hi Champ. Buck is talking about the largemouth bass when talking about the humps that must come to at least ten feet for them to use them. David is also right about you may catch an occasional LM on this hump maybe after a severe front or in the winter months. The best thing about having a few good ...

Re: Leader recommendation for walleye and pike

Everyone has good points here. The 50 lb cheap mono works great till you want to get deeper and it will hold you back so when wanting to get the depth, I use the wire. Years ago Dan Luley's brother in law made some wire for a friend that didn't meet his needs and upon looking at it, it works perfect...

The Man

Invited a friend to fish my lake and enjoy the day. He is out there with his son and grand daughter. I caught my bass spot locked and am in the house watching them troll. Got a 4-3 1/2-3 and one just short of 3 from one spot. Lasted about 15 minutes and it was over. Same as yesterday only fish not a...

Re: My Lake today

Jim, I documented with video tape visually and with the depth meter this morning, one of the larger areas to be treated. The guy is out there at this very moment killing mother nature. 90% of the people want this. It's about the same everywhere you look. As long as it is funded by the state, they are...

My Lake today

Here is the flag the weed sprayers put in my lawn only because the spraying takes place within 100 yds of my shoreline. At times they can spray without letting anyone know it has been done. Look at the time slots they use with this new poison. Cannot let cattle drink for 120 days but it's ok for you...

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel sorry for anyone who is just starting out at a place like this. That big flat bar at the west end is a perfect place to practice keeping lures in position. This place is trouble for anyone. John

Jim, Thats a great video with you and your dad. Great structures you picked and some nice fish. Nothing better than sharing what you know with family and friends. Those memories will be very important down the road. John

Re: Constantly Learning

Steve, It's been a really long time since I went deep. Well, every fall we catch a lot of bass between 20 and 35 feet but I consider that not the unusual because we do it every fall. I'm talking about something away from my normal fishing waters. I have not done the Detroit River for a long time. I ...

Constantly Learning

Learning goes in stages. Normally we learn the shallows, the mid depths and then the deep. In the 90's I went to my first National Outing and looked and listened. I was not different than anyone else. I wanted to learn and was searching for someone to learn from. Out of 300 people walking around, mo...

My routine for a season.

Early ice out: All casting, mostly smaller blades and light jigs and deeper than normal, depending on the lake. Nothing is set in stone, must still check out shallows, deep and in between depths. Always keep in mind that fish do not move constantly or consistently so may have to repeat checking dept...

My observations

We are living in a different world right now. Our state wants us to go fishing but still use our brains when around others. Our public ramps are loaded with people and in most cases everyone is complying but some think this is just a vacation , not a life saving opportunity. While observing other fi...

Re: early sneak peak at St. Clair

Nice vids. I understand we have cancelled our trip to St. Clair but Brett and his buddy will try and make it. This virus won't be gone long enough for me to take a chance to go anywhere near Detroit. Been fishing solo for a couple of weeks already and will continue to do so till this passes. Some ar...

Re: falls lake nc

That's a lot to answer for a lake that big. This particular map is just not enough to make accurate comments. However what you need to do is all in the book. Summer, longer flatter bars associated with the channel. Early season short bars, steeper structures outside the feeder cuts and as spring com...
