Obsessed??????????

Was just talking to the wife over breakfast about playing guitar and fishing and what it takes to learn both. Deb says this......... Those who are just average do it for a hobby. The best ones are obsessed with it. You think so? John

Re: water color / muddy water

Conditions change. A weekend warrior may not get on the water enough to see or understand the changes in all the variables in fishing. This fall, I completely stopped catching two groups of adult bass that had been money all summer long. A spot a couple hundred yards away started producing big bass ...

Re: Vintage "Fishing News" newspapers and Home Study booklets

Good stuff and good reading. I have a ton of the old fishing News also. Ted Walter found them at a sale years ago. Still have them. Someone should lap that right up cause that's a good deal. First day here we have some decent temps and the wind is blowing pretty good. Took last nights snow away and ...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

You fish West Arm, Harrisons Bay and Jenning Bay. That's where you want to do your work. Caught a lot of bass out of Harrisons bay. These lakes have the best water color in the whole system and are a piece of cake to run the lures. You should rarely have to go deeper than a 200 on no bo to catch a f...

Snow, cold and ugly

For me, once the snow gets over a foot deep and it stays because it's just too cold for it to go anywhere, this is the worst part of the whole year. Denny Coulardot would use the word miserable. It's a good thing I still have some painting to do inside the house so I don't have to look at it. Last y...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Your thinking is good but you don't have to over think a weedline. If the weedline goes to 16 feet, pick a lure that runs about half way down and make that pass first , then go to a bigger lure and check the base of the weedline. You as a green horn should still stay on the lakes with water color an...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Steve, I was checking out some of the MLF tournaments last night and they were in Texas fishing a lake(I forgot the name), but I got the navionics out and found this lake so I moved over to Arizona and for the first time realized your state is not the place to be for someone who loves spoonplugging....

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Your lake chain has lakes with great water color and a shallow weedline. Stay on them and do not fish the bigger clearer ones. It is that simple. The dark water color will allow you to learn how to run the smaller lures. It is a simple decision and one where the learning can start right away without...

Re: Hickory NC

There isn't anyone on this pic I don't know except the guy John Z is talking to and only because I can't see his face. It could be Frank because his wife is next to him. Douglas, I thought the only time I met you was at Mr. Perry's funeral. Had no idea I had a chance to chat and may have missed an o...

Re: 2016 Ranger 175T 75HP Mercury tiller - price reduced

For many years I would eyeball a ranger tiller on a boat lift at Winona Lake till I got my own. I even went up to the guy when I saw him outside and asked him if he wanted to sell it. Love my ranger. John

Re: Doing what Steve Craig does for a living and hate it.

David, Those are old mounts. Have not mounted a fish for many years but some of these are special. State record Tiger Musky, 20lb 9 oz pike, 7 1/2 lb largemouth and a wiper from Monroe that Deb caught. Had a friend who was just getting into mounting fish and had him do it for the practice. Still loo...

Re: Doing what Steve Craig does for a living and hate it.

Steve, Oh no!!!!!!!! Mud room, kitchen, living room (biggest room), and upstairs hallway is done. Three bedrooms upstairs and one down left. Yesterday my daughter, son and his family came over and helped Deb put things back on the wall. I was not allowed to do that part. When preparing one room, the...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Two posts in a row by two guys that have something in common. One with a lot of time on the water and great knowledge and one who is getting there fast. Every once in a while, someone comes along and understands what they need to do to find fishing success. In the last 48 years, I have only seen a h...

Jim, If the crappies show up like they did last year, you can drive over, shoot some video and add some good stuff to that bathroom wall. I know your up to that. John

Re: Doing what Steve Craig does for a living and hate it.

 Hal and Steve, Steve, I had to include you in on this. Deb and I decided to start painting upstairs in the hallway. We have what some people like about our house in a spiral staircase. Not always so cool for a lot of practical usage. Anyways, about halfway through, Deb is working out of a smal...
