Re: Qustion for John Bales
I agree with Hal. Over the many years, I have had a ton of rods which each of them had the action that would fit different lure sizes and lines. Some were not good for anything and they didn't hang around long. Half of what I use today are bucks rods and the others were from Mike Beck. My favorite n...

Re: Qustion for John Bales
20lb Suffix 832 with some kind of leader. No bo, wire, a piece of 50 lb mono for the pike, whatever the situation calls for but never without some kind of leader. Braid to #10 swivel and then to leader or braid with a double uni knot to a no bo leader and then a snap. Everyone has their own thoughts...

Re: Qustion for John Bales
Many do not cut their teeth on dark water where so much time is spent running the first three size lures with no bo. For years it was let out 8 layers(two colors), or 12 layers (three colors), or whatever it took. A few spoonpluggers started talking about the length of line being let out being impor...

Re: CONTACT POINT
Joe, What you did is exactly the goal of a spoonplugger. In my eyes, if you have never done that(found the fish trolling, stop and wipe them out on the cast), you just are not there yet. I knew when you and I talked that you have the stuff and know what to do with it. So what they weren't 4-6 pounde...

Re: CONTACT POINT
14-15 ft big jon boat with 20 hp . All the depth finders are great these days. Minimum of 7 inch screen. Like I said, you have to learn to become a good troller. Trolling is your teacher and will teach you about the features in the lakes, shapes, sizes, contact points. You will learn how important s...

Re: CONTACT POINT
Ken, There is nothing that can replace 30 years of learning how to become a good troller. Without the knowledge that was gained by becoming a good troller, nothing else would matter. For years, I fished out of a 14 ft big jon built by lowe. All my buddies fished out of the same boat. We learned to t...

Re: CONTACT POINT
Hi Joe. I miss you buddy. No. In the fall when the thermocline goes away, the bass might be at 18 or 21 feet on the dark water lake and in the clear lake, they might be at 32. Why would you care. They are both the same , however in the clear lake they are a little deeper. You have the tools to fish ...

Re: CONTACT POINT
Over the last few years of being on the water a lot, I have learned that catching fish is never the same for any two days. There are so many variables to consider, we just never get it completely right. When we think we got it, something changes and lets us know what we don't know. We can study maps...

Good video Jim. What little experience I have with the stripers, I enjoyed the strike and the fight. We caught some up to 9 pounds on Monroe years ago. Good job. John

Re: Lake Mille Lacs
I third all that was said by the others. Fran and Kelly laid out the red carpet and we all walked on it for several days. Great company from everyone that showed up. Ate like kings, had a few drinks and had some good chats. Deb and I went the Michigan way to stay away from Chicago and then drove acr...

Re: SPEED
Nice job Jim. Loved the tread mill explanation too. The guys should know that the water temps on the cooling lakes can be in excess of 90+ degrees and this explains the reason the faster speeds need to be checked. The Florida lakes in the heat of the summer also takes faster speeds in order to get t...

My fishing partners are all spoonpluggers and we think alike, fish alike, and put forth the same effort. Great partners. John

Re: This is what I see coming
Tim, I like your attitude. Your statements and ideas let me know that you spend enough time on the water to understand what you and I need to do to catch a fish . We all know that the more time we spend on the water, the better chance we have to learn. I am sitting here this morning thinking about d...

Re: Bass guy (?) Giving Buck credit way up North.
This guy is one of the best in his category of professional fishermen. You don't hear Buck Perry come out of these guys mouths very often. Did you see all the names on his shirt? In order for him to survive, he must sell these products and do well in tournaments in order to feed his family to contin...
