Jump lures
All jump lures should be jumped a distance and then let go back to the bottom. The amount of weight(a jig,a jigging spoon,or a silver buddy) desired for that particular time should be chosen by the depth that the fish are, the conditions (snaggy bottom, clean, mossy, weedy and so on) and the activity ...

Jim, You do a great service to all of us with your work on this board. A lot of your time and effort has gone into this thing and it is greatly apreciated. Without communication, we are lost as a group. The national newsletter is also important to us being able to keep in touch but it doesnt talk ba...

Wire will make groves in your rod tip. It will also make groves in the side of your boat. If you want to see how much experience a fisherman has using wire, take a look at the side of his boat. No groves, not much experience using wire. In no way will braided replace wire. There is a time and place ...

Depth meters
Why would you want to put your trust in a vexilar? Those readings would leave even an experianced fisherman wondering what all those lines are for. You would have to be out of your mind to spend money on those units. They show all that crap because thats what people want to see. You want a unit that...

Wire
Hello Mr. Bush, Some places as you describe can be hair pullers until you find the right line legnth to tip the tops of whatever it is down there. I remember in the early days trying to troll a few of the deeper breaklines at pickwick down by the steam plant. Just about the time you would get your l...
David
I can answwer that for you David. After years of trying to get people to listen and only a handfull do, they just go away and be quiet. You surely cant blame them for doing that. You are a young cocky punk kid and in about 20 years you will understand even more. They have already bled their hearts o...

Pickwick
Many moons ago I went to pickwick and my partner was to meet me a couple of days later so I had some good time to look things over by myself. This was one of the Alabama outings and Frank Hamill had taken me under his wing and tried to teach me something. He would draw me a map and tell me to go to ...

Hey Bill, Thanks for the information. That stuff can be used for a lot of things. I am much better with grey or black tape when something breaks. Every once in a while, I get something right. A lot like my fishing. On both I have room for improvement. John

Hummingbirds
Hey Pat, Finally found a use for an old hummingbird. Redid my dads old spoonplugging boat for my son. We worked our asses off this winter to get this thing into shape. Put in a new floor, transom, painted it, new carpet. John Zaborney worked on the 15 hp johnson and brought it back to life and it ru...

interpretation of a breakline
We were raised on flashers. I cannot tell you how many of those hummingbirds we wore out. What a pain in the behind to see in the sun too. The old graph type units were way too slow for me. Now the graphs have a real time to the right of the unit and it works very well on showing breaklines. I have ...

shallows
Ron, Jim has covered your questions well. Until you gain some confidence in the shallows, do not worry about going any deeper. All of us started out the same way. Turn the depth meter off. Feel what your lure is doing. Is it bumping ? If so, then begin turning out towards deeper water untill you beg...

Camera
Hi Pat, I was thinking about some of the other fellows who are new, not your posts at all. (Laughing) I dont have an opinion on the camera one way or the other. I think scuba diving would be more fun if a person really wants to be at the fish's level and look them eye to eye. A stick of dynamite att...

Camera
Douglas had his fishing knowledge way before the camera was available. It would be a mistake for a greenhorn to be running around looking for fish before he had any spoonplugging knowledge. He would be doing the wrong things at the wrong time and in the wrong manner. He will be lost before he ever g...
