Thanks,
I will try that.

I appreciate your comments, Tom It is very important to remember that while diameter makes a HUGE difference, Spoonplugs running on NOBO and/or wire line is a LONG proven combination by people more talented than me. My issue is that I altered the equation by changing the reel. I am however getting m...

Reflection
Yesterday I wrote an email to some other soonpluggers and I thought I would share some of it here now. I fished the St Criox River by Afton, Minnesota yesterday and had some little success. Pat Maio made a comment about a Walleye I caught and here is some of the response I gave him: As to the Walley...

Help with wire
Today and the rest of the weekend I find myself on one of those clear lakes with 18' weedlines and moss beyond. As soon as the lure touches the moss I can't rip it clean. I stacked the lures as best I could and didn't get anything. Went as far as I could with no-bo. Then I went to the wire. I starte...

Lure Position
Lately I have been having some success with fish -Great. I have to admit that I am having trouble with the situational awareness where the lure is 45 to 120 feet or more behind me and X feet below. I find that I am making perfect trolling passes with the boat but I mentally see the lure wildly swing...

Tempurature
Walt, My Garmin has a built in Thermometer. On the Mississippi the temp has gone up 2 degrees in 3 days. The temp this morning was 68. For a rapidly moving body of water this is a significant increase. I haven't fished a lake in a week but that temp was 56. I have found that the bites are strong but...

Pat, They are a bulkier reel and I am still working out the line lengths. Most of my fishing has been on the Mississippi River because of GREAT water color and long/straight rocky and riprap shore lines. The problem is that there is a hell of a current. It is 4 knots in some places. So I am not gett...

Snaps
As an addendum to previous post: It appears that the snap that I was having trouble with is a 5 or 6. I went to Buck's sight and saw he sells #2 and #3's. I bought some today. So hopefully the 500 issue is taken care of. Also of note. I changed my Penn 109's for some Cabelas Depthmaster Line Counter...

I have been having trouble running the 500 Spoonplug. It either just rolls on the line or it wiggles while doing a slow roll.
I don't know what size snap I am using but I think they are number 10's. I can say that the snap seems really big compared to the size of the lure.
Help!

Trolling Rod
I was mounting a reel to one of Bucks Trolling rods when I discovered the rod was loose in the handle. I really tried to get it tighter but I can't seem to get it figured out. Any idea's? The reels are the Cabelas Depthmaster Line Counter Reel. They are sold out of last years model but this years mo...

Harvey, As a professional pilot I like my gadgets. I just bought a Garmin 178C that hopefully will be installed on my boat this week. I do NOT plan to spend the extra money to get the Blue Charts or Hot Spot maps because I suspect they are mostly incorrect as far as spoonplugging goes. I have had a ...

Line Counter Reels
I had a bit of a troubled day. Get my Penn 109's rebuilt for the season or buy new reels. I hadn't used them in a long time and they need some work. So after calling Penn to get a quote, I bought 4 Cabelas Goldmaster II Trolling reels with the built-in line counter. So if anyone wants about 15 Penn ...

Line Counters
Have any of you guys had any success with the small line counters that you attach to the rod? I don't want to give up my Penn 109's but I do sometimes forget the layers or wind up having to reel in all the way when I need to pull in a little line for for changing break lines. Also will the wire work...

John, I recently came in possession of some of the old "Fishing Facts" magizine articles. I think I may not be understanding something correctly. In one of them, Buck says to start with the 500 and go some distance. Then if no movement is detected, go to the 400 move to deeper water and co...
