Delta Situation

The drawing is shown to indictate that during a migration to shallower water, fish will not go deeper to get shallower. Once they get to the top of the delta or as shallow as the weather and water allows, the fish stop moving. Terry showed me delta's that have 60 feet of water on the channel side wh...

Lake Choice

Another body of water to consider in difficult weather conditions is a river. Generally rivers have excellent water color and while both a positive and negative issue, is the MOVING water. However difficult rivers can be, if I had to bet pinks on my truck and boat I would pick a river. In a river yo...

Rod Tips and Wire line

I don't know about Randy's experiences but for myself, I have never had any problems with the wire cutting through the tip. It does get really hard to reel in but that is easily handled by getting the large reel handle that Bucks Baits sells. The first thing Terry O'Malley told me when we met in Hic...

Early Wake Up

Hi Bart,
I figured that I was the only one who needed to getup that early. When I am down there fishing with Terry you will need to drive up from Charlotte.

Talk to you soon,
Fran

Flasher

Hi Bart, I have been using a Vexilar FL-18 for about 3 years now and I find it works just fine. As to the question of 8 deg cone vs. 16 deg cone, I wouldn't bother. I have both and have NEVER found the need to go to the 8 deg cone. Use it too shallow and you can't read it very well. In fact I have t...

Legends

I just thought that I would mention that Don Nichols died last month. I have been trying to get Terry to attend the winter seminar for three years to include getting airline tickets but I can't seem to get him up to Chicago. Also consider this. I have fished with Terry and Don Dickson. It is easy to...

Penn 109

Morning, When you see Penn 109 or Penn 109 Level wind, they are the same reel. Getting them off of Ebay isn't so bad, I bought about 15 or so of them a few years ago. Expect to pay 15 to 50 bucks for them. NONE of them are as in good a shape as they sold them as. Plan on getting them rebuilt. I sent...

Snaps

Gary, Size #3. but don't get the ones that are just wire. Get the ones that have the pinched metal in the middle. The other ones atually come apart. The only place I can find them is at Buck's Baits. Also there are two elements that are absolutely required to run 500's. (one easy one not so easy) 1....

Spoonplug

Hi Jim, I think that the lure is about 8 inches long and not made for very long. The only ones I have seen are in the museum. In fact it has been easier and cheaper to get 900's. The only thing I know for sure from talking to Jeri is that there were a large number of these size lures stolen. The way...

The last one like this went for about $600.
So all I can say is bring your money. I stopped bidding at 525.

109's

Also be aware the the foot of the reel that fits into the rod handle. I found out too late that there are differant sizes.

Don't do what I did and buy 20 reels and more than half of them won't fit into Buck's rod.

You probably downloaded a file that had a name like: independence.pdf or milacs.tiff. The .pdf or .tiff is the important part. If this is the case you need something called Adobe Acrobat. Its a free program from www.adobe.com There is a Professional version of the same thing and that costs money, Yo...

I have a Vexilar FL-18. I did buy the dual cone transducer, the one with 9 and 16 or whatever degrees. I love the unit and have never had a problem. I would NOT spend the money on the dual cone, in fact I would sticlk with the standard 16(?) cone. Like John said, if you can find them on ebay they ar...

Line Counter Reels

Nick, Last year I used line counter reels. After pounding the heck out of them I switched back to the Penn 109's. If you are going to try line counters, buy some of the more expensive ones, or saltwater type. I used a Cabelas middle of the road reel. It was great until they were just worn out. Yet t...

I caught a clam

After the news of Buck's passing, I have been in a mood that has me feeling like I am walking through mollasses. I am spending a couple of weeks in Hickory next month. While there I am going to the National Outing and I have an Advanced Spoonplugging Course with Terry while there. Meeting Buck was a...
