Re: Snow, cold and ugly
Every year is different. Last year, I already had about 50+ bass to hand by this same time, but they were all from the bank. The first boat trip of the year was first week of March, and it sat in the garage for 2.5 months waiting on open water. This year, I got the boat out half a dozen times in Jan...

Re: water color / muddy water
Thank you Team9nine. You have a searchable digital green book to find those references or just an excellent memory? My home water is a river and I experience an extended period muddy water in the spring. Used to just last a week or two. Now sometimes it's the end of June or even into July before cl...

Re: water color / muddy water
Interestingly, the words "mud" or "muddy" only appear 8 times in the green book. As pertains to your specific question, there are two references in the book on "muddy" water clarity that is touched upon: "Most of the time you will be faced with too much clarity. Bu...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline
proxy-image.jpg Thank you guys -- I have watched that Don Dickson video so many times. The last time it <almost> clicked. I am slowly getting it. I guess the problem is I have been trying very hard not take shortcuts, so I have been almost religious in not using the depthfinder -- "turn the da...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline
There are numerous ways to map a bar. One of the most common is using your depthfinder ala Don Dickson. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms2sL2D0WXo In that same Study Guide you mentioned (7), page 14, Fig. 3, shows you an example of using straightline passes to map a bar. It shows 4 ...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline
Steve has covered it perfectly, but I'll just add this Terry O'Malley quote from one of his seminars that Chase recorded: "Now days, guys are running the lures with the depthfinder when they should be able to map the bar with the depthfinder and then run the bar with the lures." Map it fir...

Re: electronics
I still see Mr. Perry blowing a gasket over all this technology. Brian was right when he made mention that it takes away everything we do to get to the point where we are. This is the part we have to be careful with. Letting the equipment dictate how we fish can be trouble. If we use it as an aid a...

Re: electronics
I'll let you know what I think of this new stuff shortly after the ice comes off. Mr. Perry would blow a gasket if he was still around. Watched a tournament on the Tenn river late last night and there are a lot of guys away from the bank. You can bet that there are no more secret spots that have no...

Welcome aboard. Wish I was closer to your area Mid 30s today with a rain/snow/sleet mix combined with 20 mph winds all day long today - lol. Hopefully someone closer will see this and chime in.

Re: trolling sinkers for river rig
Traditionally, the 3-way river rig uses a bell sinker, also known as a bass casting sinker: download.png The newer high speed trolling sinkers I believe he is referring to are more streamlined and have swivels on both ends so that you can run them inline or as a dropper weight: HSsinkers.jpg HSsinke...

Re: spoonplugs with jigs
See if this helps... 1. You can play with line lengths for all components as necessary. 2. Spoonplug won't be affected using any of the larger sizes to go deep, and a lighter weight jig 3. Good idea to go slightly lighter on the drop back line to the jig for the reasons you mentioned. 3-way Rig.png
