Re: Mills Lac 2021 fall outing?

Ken, I hate the wind! I have used my old 1650 Lund Rebel all over this country. It is amazing how well these boats with not so deep sides will handle rough water. Like Fran said, when you are having really rough water, we Troll for the most part. I got caught on Roosevelt here in AZ once during a mo...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Yes, that is correct. Unfortunately for us, many of the breaks the fish use, we simply can not see. Especially in the very deep water. That is why Buck says that most of the time we have to let the fish come to us. It is also why we should learn to Contour Troll the shallows, because at some point i...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Ken, If you look at Jerry's map you will see that all those Contour Lines, which WERE quite far apart, all of a sudden they all come together (very close together) at that one spot, and then they widen out again. That spot is what Buck would call a "Sharper Break". It becomes a very quick ...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline

Mike, After looking over the map of this lake, I agree with Champ. The Dam has a fantastic bar right in the middle of it and alot of good rip rap to troll. Google Earth shows pretty good water color, but hard to tell without being there. The big Causeway is another good looking structure for sure. A...

Re: Doing what Steve Craig does for a living and hate it.

LOL!!!! I had to do a complete remodel a couple years ago, so I know what you mean! Patience....Painting is lots of patience and then more! Make sure to use a 3/4 nap roller cover(holds more paint) and goes farther between dips. Use a 3 inch Angle Sash Brush(holds more paint) and know that you dont ...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline

Mike, You are confusing fishing( running the lures) with Mapping. When we map, we DO NOT RUN A LURE IN THE WATER. We only use our Depth finder. Here is the way to do it quick and easy: Start at the Crown of your Bar and find the 10 foot depth on top. Drop a marker there. Now go out and find the deep...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline

Mike, Depending on what map we have, mine shows several good breaklines, but until a guy runs it, you just dont know. I see the first one at 12 to 16. Another at 21 feet or so, one at 24 feet and the final one at the Contact Point at 27 breaking into 30 plus feet of water. It is the only Sharper Bre...

Re: electronics

Good one Jim!!!!! I like my Helix's. I love the IPilot Link system with remote or foot control. I like the Auto Chart Live. But still even with the Auto Chart Live, I just have a hard time believing the danged thing. I always use that old Vexilar Flasher and run the Breakline with it. AND as usual, ...

Vernfuse
Welcome to the board.

Rip out the wheel or sell it and get a tiller.
You will be hindering yourself from the start with a wheel boat.
You simply can not control your fishing any other way.

Re: 2003 Lund 1650 Rebel for sale

Fran and I talked at length about the Lunds, and the Alumacrafts. I believe he is going with the 175 Competitor. I decided on the 165 as it is less money, is only 1 foot shorter, and the Beams are about the same. Mine is 87 and I believe the 175 is 4 or 5 inches wider. Plus, I can use a 60 hp Honda ...

Re: 2003 Lund 1650 Rebel for sale

John,
Finally decided to go with a new Alumacraft 165 Competitor Tiller.
Lots of extras, and could not beat the price.
Much better than the Lund.....FOR THE SAME MONEY!!
