Re: The odd ball

Actually John, There seem to be odd balls in nature all the time. Take coyotes for instance. Normal breeding season is always Jan-Feb, with pups being born in March-early April. Yet over these many years I have seen young puppies in Late August- Early Sept. I have seen the same thing in Bobcats with...

Re: Madison Chain

Found this map on the National Spoonpluggers of America Facebook site. I believe they copied it from Brians Structure Cafe site.It is a map that Joe Ehrhardt made on Mendota. He was an early Spoonplugger back in the early days. might come in handy for some while there. Me......Im going to spend my t...

Re: Madison Chain

Like I said ,Jim, Never been there. I could have sworn Buck said that generally the first lake was usually the darkest. I'll double check later. Nice to know though and thanks for clearing that up. I'm a Reservior guy for sure. Home of the fish is the channel. Is it correct to assume the channel in ...

Re: Madison Chain

I guess Ill take a shot at it. Never fished here in my life. In fact, never fished a true "chain of lakes" either. But, a Spoonplugger likes a challenge. So here goes. "Where would you expect to find the clearest water color?" I am guessing here but probably the middle to lower l...

Thanks Dennis for your kind words. The credit goes to all my mentors.
If it weren't for them, I'd still be trying to figure it all out.

Re: The good old days

It's a good bet that the bass do grow slower in clear water. Out here if it wasn't for the Florida strain, it would take forever to get a 10 pound bass..

Re: Jim Shell talks to Don Dickson

I heard this one a long time ago while we were eating dinner in some greasy spoon dive in Florida many years ago.
Just as good now as it was then!
Actually got to hear several other stories as well.
Don is a good teacher.

Re: Bottom Bumping

Wise words from Phil. Dave, It is my belief from things you have posted, that Bucks material hasnt been read and studied. Going out and trying to troll a Spoonplug, or any other lure for that matter, out deep as you say, will result in major frustration for you. Im going to be very direct here. Wire...

Re: Bottom Bumping

For the most part when after bass, I want all my lures just ticking the bottom most of the time. When in the shallows, ( water less than 10 feet) , with the first 3 sizes of Spoonplugs, they will take a free running lure. Once you get past that depth, you had better be bumping bottom most of the tim...
