gps

A gps is a very important aid if you are fishing waters that are very large and have no way of getting a shoreline sighting. They will get you close to a spot that you may want to fish. They will get you back to the ramp in a foggy situation and may save your life. They will not interpret a structur...

to charlie

There are a few of us who do not put the boat away untill the ice comes on. I have not winterized my boat for years. Basicly there is no need to do so when the boat is only idle for three month or so. About the only thing that we do different to extend our season is to dress warm and spend a bit mor...

zercom

Hi Jim, I was not aware that they had a cone angle of 12 degrees. that should work just fine. The only vexlar flasher I have ever seen work was the ice fishing models, and I know that they have a wide reading. That will not show breaklines very well. They will do the job but I know what the zercom w...

Flasher

Get yourself a used Zercom. You can find one on E-bay. Not the ice fishing model but any of the others will do fine. They are the best flasher ever made. Vexilar has too wide of a reading. You will not see breaklines well with them. Get an 8 degree cone and a Zercom and you are set. You will do ok w...

JWT, There are several reasons for the smaller lures in the deeper waters. One is for the species like the white bass. An ofering of a smaller lure so that the fish can get it in their mouth. The other option would be using a three way with a jig with the larger lures to pull it down to the desired ...

Line legnth and lure size

I have learned an awftel lot over the last couple of seasons, not only how to run lures in deeper water (with heavy current) but how not to lose so many. Our first season or two we lost lots of lures. Not to snags but with experimenting on which rigs to use to cope with the zebra muscles. We used wi...

Hats off to these striper boys. Great catch. And if you don't mind me saying, they got their eight dollars worth and then some. And if an 800 and the knowledge that went with it was not available, they too would have sat there with the live bait and thought that the fish were just not biting today. ...

The last that I heard, the 800 was the #1 selling lure. Why? For several reasons. You ever heard this said? " The older and bigger a fish gets, the more reluctant he is to move towards the shallows." The sanctuary for the bass,35 feet. Big muskies , you better check from 45 to 55 feet. It ...

cold water

Scott, I do not remember Mr. Perry making that particular comment about it being more important that we walk the bottom in the colder waters. It is always important to maintain bottom contact in deep water no matter what the water temps are or the speeds that we check. You know that already. I would...

Changing water condition

David, You could explain to your teacher that when the surface water cools, the most unstable condition occurs in the shallows. When this change is taking place, the most stable water where conditions are less changing is in and around the deepest water in the area. This is where the fish will be, w...

boats

There are so many boats that will do the job. You must consider what bodies of water that you are going to fish and go from there. Here is a guideline. A 14 foot jon boat with a 15 hp is the very best. For every foot of boat that you add and every size horsepower that you go up, you will do a worse ...

Boat

Hey Jim, That is what I fish out of. I have had mine for a couple of years and hav'nt liked the changes that they have made since the year I bought mine. My next boat will not be a lowe. I love mine but would not do it over again. My next is a lund or alumacraft. John
