Re: Still struggling to find breaklines

I've got to say this has been a challenge. I do think my timing (winter season) has made it even more challenging. But thanks to you on this forum and those I've met in person & talked to on the phone, I'm getting there. Each trip is becoming less frustration and more fun. I can't really thank y...

Re: Still struggling to find breaklines

Champ - thanks. I have been trolling all winter long, learning to bounce the spoonplugs as my first step. I took my casting gear off the boat and have not cast a lure in 6 months. That may have been the wrong way to go, but I wanted to learn presentation and mapping. I probably also picked the worst...

Re: Still struggling to find breaklines

Thanks all. I appreciate the time and effort to craft the replies. Great information and a lot to digest. From what you all have said, I will have to say I think I am doing it properly -- I just don't have any confidence - that probably will come from experience. Champ, I was all over that bar today...

Re: Still struggling to find breaklines

I'm not sure I can explain this: I have posted before about this, but still don't get it -- jeez, I feel like a dunce asking the same question over & over -- thank you guys for your patience! https://www.spoonplug.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3671 I just can't seem to pick up a breakline ...

Still struggling to find breaklines

First, a praise report: I went out yesterday - Bluebird sky, not a cloud to be had. Temp 59, water temp 54.6, the second dry day after 4 days of rain, so the water was muddy with about 4" of visibility. I trolled a couple of bars without success (normal for me), and the riprap at the dam withou...

Snow and Spoonpluggers

Don't know if you guys follow "Pluggers" - a comic strip, but this one seemed right on the money.

Re: Looking to buy tiller handle

Have you checked with sources like this?
https://www.marinepartsoutlet.com/outboard_parts.htm

I've followed this guy for really good info on the old 6hp Johnsons - he has a writeup on a 70hp that he converted to tiller:

Sometimes after a day on the water it isn't just the catches you remember.
So I guess it's the releases?

I wrote a long thoughtful and eloquent reply, but it disappeared into the ether, so I will just say thank you to all here on this forum. Going to sign off and get to work now.

Cheers,
Mike

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline

proxy-image.jpg Thank you guys -- I have watched that Don Dickson video so many times. The last time it <almost> clicked. I am slowly getting it. I guess the problem is I have been trying very hard not take shortcuts, so I have been almost religious in not using the depthfinder -- "turn the da...

Re: Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline

Thanks for the responses. I'm stubborn and hardheaded, so I will eventually get there, but I'm also thickheaded, so please forgive me for being a dunderhead and let's continue -- Steve, you say: "My question to you is why are you trying to contour troll at 15 feet? Your contour trolling should ...

Tyro Mapping Question - variable depth breakline

bar.jpg I am working on mapping (and vocabulary). This seems to be my biggest roadblock to becoming a spoonplugger. Buck put so much emphasis on it that I know it is a critical skill, so I am determined to get at least a working knowledge of it. I am currently on my third read of volume 7 part one ...
